Probe and Rack Selection Guide

Touch and Scanning Probes Defined:

TP2: Uses an M2 threaded stylus directly into the touch probe body and cannot use a stylus change rack.

TP20: Uses an M2 threaded stylus into a magnetic module. Only TP20 modules will work with the TP20 probe body. Click here for a list of these modules.

    Rack: MCR20

TP200: Uses an M2 threaded stylus into a magnetic module. Only TP200 modules will work with the TP200 probe body. Click here for a list of these modules. The TP200 and SCR200 rack require proper interface to the CMM and probe controller system. A PI200 interface is required.

    Rack: SCR200

TP6 and TP6A: Use an M3 threaded stylus directly into the touch probe body and cannot use a stylus change rack.

TP7: Use an M4 threaded stylus directly into the touch probe body and cannot use a stylus change rack. The TP7, however, does use an Autojoint mount and the entire touch probe may be changed with an ACR1 or ACR3 rack system.

SP25: The SP25 scanning probe has 4 major components. The probe body itself mounts to the probe head by an autojoint connection. This body may be changed with an ACR3 system. The Scanning Modules mount directly to the SP25 probe body. The scanning modules are identified as SM25-1, SM25-2, SM25-3 and SM25-4. These modules may be changed using the FCR25 rack system. There is also an adapter for a TP20 module identified as a TM25-20. The scanning modules then use a Stylus holder, which mounts on the bottom of the scanning module(SM25-x). The stylus holder uses an M3 threaded stylus. On the base of the TM25-20 mounts a TP20 and uses the conventional M2 threaded styli.

SP600: The SP600 scanning probe is a multiwire system with 2 main components. The probe body itself mounts to the probe head by an autojoint connection. The body may be changed with an ACR3 rack system. The Stylus Module mounts directly to the probe body. The modules may be changed using the SCR600 stylus changing rack system. The stylus module uses an M4 threaded stylus.

Rack Systems Defined:

MCR20 (Module Changing Rack): For use with the TP20 modules. The rack contains 6 ports and mounts to the CMM table with a single center support. While the MH20 and MH20i manual probe heads use TP20 modules, they will not work with the MCR20 rack.

SCR200 (Stylus Changing Rack): For use with the TP200 modules. The rack contains 6 ports and mounts to the CMM table with a single center support. The SCR200 requires a PI200 interface to be properly installed on the CMM.

FCR25 (Flexible Change Rack): The FCR25 is designed to be used with the SM25 scanning modules and SH25 stylus holders, both part of the SP25 system. In addition, TP20 modules may also be changed with the FCR25. The FCR25 is available in many different configurations. In basic form, however, the rack is 3 ports with each port large enough to accept the SM25 scanning module. To accommodate the smaller Stylus holders and TP20 modules, port adapter inserts are available. You may attach the 3-port FCR25 to a post for direct mounting to a CMM table. This is identified as an FCR25-L3 configuration. You may also mount 2 of these 3-port racks to the post to create a 6-port FCR25, identified as an FCR25-L6. And finally, you may mount the FCR25 to the MRS rail system described below.

ACR1 (Autochange Rack): For use with SP600 ,SP25, TP7 and any probe body with an autojoint mounting. This rack allows for auto changing on the complete probe body, not just a stylus module. This enables extensions to be changed along with the probe body. The rack contains 8 ports. The ACR1 requires the proper interface to your CMM. This rack system mounts directly to the CMM table.

ACR3 (Autochange Rack): For use with SP600 ,SP25, TP7 and any probe body with an autojoint mounting. The ACR3 is a 4 port rack that mounts on the MRS rail system detailed below. The ACR3 by itself does not have a means of mounting to the CMM, please add the proper MRS Kit. This rack allows for auto changing on the complete probe body, not just a stylus module. This enables extensions to be changed along with the probe body. The ACR3 requires the proper interface to your CMM.

MRS (Modular Rack System): The MRS is designed to be used with the FCR25, SCP600 or ACR3 racks. The MRS is not a change rack. Instead it is a new method of mounting the change racks such as the FCR25. This allows the operator to mix change racks for the most flexibility in programming. For example, you may choose to mount an FCR25 3-port and ACR3 on the MRS rail. Three MRS kits are available. They differ in the length of the rail. The rails are available in a 400mm, 600mm and 1000mm length. Additional legs may be added to increase the height of the rail to accommodate longer stylus lengths.
